Toponyms and linguistics: in history and theory
Location

A Study Day entitled Toponyms and linguistics: in history and theory will be held at the University of Naples L’Orientale (Italy) on November 30 2012. As part of the program, the speakers will present themes ranging from The semantization of the concept of city in Indo-European and Chinese environments to the Relationship of etymology and motivation in toponymy; from the Albanian toponymy in the ancient Balkans to the Situation in multilingual settings or the Toponymy in Ireland; from the Ideological toponymy of Parthian and Sassanid sovereigns to Italic toponymy and other topics.

There will be a presentation of posters and you are invited to submit abstracts related to: the history of reflection on place names in linguistics; a critical summary of research on specific toponyms in both modern and ancient times; a presentation of electronic dictionaries dedicated to toponyms. However, original proposals that are not closely related to these themes will also be evaluated.

We plan to publish the Proceedings.

An abstract of 100-150 words must be submitted by 31 October, and the title of the proposal must be submitted to the organizer of the Study Day at albertomanco @ unior.it by 15 September.
