5th International Workshop on Intelligent Interfaces for Human-Computer Interaction

http://www.ihealthlab.icar.cnr.it/iihci2012

Palermo, Italy - July 4-6, 2012

Scope

Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) is a multidisciplinary research area that includes understanding, designing, building and evaluating complex interactive systems involving many people (both researchers and users) and many technologies. On the other hand, developments in software and hardware technologies are continuously driving applications in supporting our collaborative and communicative needs as social beings, both at work and at play. This workshop addresses a central issue of HCI focusing on Intelligent Interfaces for Human Computer Interaction, which is the study and development of devices that allow users to interact with computer and automatic systems.

The goal of this workshop, on its fifth edition, is to bring together researchers from the different fields whose work is related to intelligent interface design for HCI. We are soliciting original contributions that address a wide range of theoretical and application issues.

Submissions are invited that address some aspect of the engineering of human-computer interactive systems. Topics include but are not limited to:

  • Input and interactions techniques
  • Novel user interfaces and interaction techniques
  • Virtual Reality for interaction
  • Audio and Speech interaction
  • Image and Video interaction
  • Human motion and gesture recognition
  • Multimodal event detection and recognition
  • Handheld device-specific interfaces
  • Brain Computer Interfaces
  • Biometric interfaces
  • Human Robot Interface
  • Interfaces for disable and elderly people
  • Perceptual user interfaces
  • Human Interfaces and Information Management
  • Assistive Devices/Technology
  • Wearable and pervasive technologies
  • Ambience Intelligence
  • Contextual design and inquiry
  • Scenario-based design
  • Engineering Psychology and Cognitive Ergonomics
  • Theoretical HCI models/laws, and their evaluation
  • Distributed interaction
  • Concurrent interaction
  • Usability and Internationalization
  • Cognitive walkthrough
  • Learning aspects
  • Safety issues
  • Augmented Cognition

Submission Details

Submissions with in-depth discussion of one topic are preferred above submissions with a broader topic. Usage of an illustrative example is encouraged. Both academic position papers and industrial experience papers are solicited.

Submit a full paper not more than eight pages (Proceedings Manuscripts: two columns, single-spaced), including figures and references, using 10 font size, and number each page. You can find instructions for authors how to format the manuscript at the following web page: http://www.computer.org/portal/site/cscps/

Prepare your paper in PDF file (Adobe format), and submit it electronically to the EDAS CISIS-2012 online submission system in the track: Workshop-IIHCI-2012: The 5th International Workshop on Intelligent Interfaces for Human-Computer Interaction http://edas.info//newPaper.php?c=11159&track=19341

All submitted papers will be reviewed by members of the program committee. Accepted papers will be given guidelines in preparing and submitting the final manuscript(s) together with the notification of acceptance. At least one author of each accepted paper must register and present his work at the workshop.

Publication Details

The papers that are accepted and presented at the workshop will be published by the IEEE Computer Society's Conference Publishing Services. Authors of selected papers accepted and presented at IIHCI 2012 will be invited to submit their work with extended results in Special Issues of International Journals. The full list is available at: http://voyager.ce.fit.ac.jp/conf/cisis/2012/special-issue.html
