SIGIR is the major international forum for the presentation of new research results and for the demonstration of new systems and techniques in the field of information retrieval (IR). The Conference and Program Chairs invite all those working in areas related to IR to submit original papers, posters, and proposals for tutorials, workshops, and demonstrations of systems.

SIGIR 2009 welcomes contributions related to any aspect of IR, including:

Foundations. IR theory, IR architecture, content representation, indexing, ranked retrieval, collaborative IR,
relevance feedback, interactive IR, IR evaluation, user studies
Techniques. Machine learning for IR, learning to rank, clustering, IR scalability and efficiency, adversarial IR, user
modeling for IR, citation analysis for IR, non-topical analysis for IR (genre detection, authorship attribution, attitude
detection), privacy in IR
Content. Text retrieval, cross-language retrieval, structured documents, language-specific IR, metadata-based IR, social tagging for IR, music IR, speech IR, image IR, video IR
Applications. Web IR, advertisement targeting, question answering, enterprise search, filtering, summarization, text mining, digital libraries, domain specific IR, mobile IR
SIGIR offers a mentoring program for full papers being submitted to the conference. Mentors are volunteers familiar with successful submissions, and will advise you on appropriateness, structure, prior work, and other high-level issues. Mentoring must be requested by 17 Nov 2008.
