         International Workshop on Self-Healing Web Services

        July 10, 2009, Los Angeles, CA, USA
    A workshop of the 2009 IEEE World Congress on Services

                      In conjunction with
    7th IEEE International Conference on Web Services (ICWS 2009)

Call for Papers

The goal of this workshop is to bring together researchers and practitioners, both from the Academia and from the Industry working in the areas of Web Service composition, Functional and Non Functional Requirements (NFR: QoS, security), and management and diagnosis, who investigate concepts, methods, techniques, and tools to design and manage self-healing Web Services.
The development of composite services poses very interesting challenges concerning their
functional and non functional requirement characteristics. On the one hand, a composite Web Service depends on the NFR properties of its own Web Service suppliers in order to provide a satisfactory service to the user. On the other hand, the main issues for the fulfillment of QoS and service level agreements are concerned with Web service performance variability. Indeed, the QoS of a Web Service may evolve relatively frequently, either because of internal changes or because of workload fluctuations. The performance of the composite Web service may be significantly improved by monitoring the execution of the component Web Services and by flexibly reacting to faults and anomalies in a timely fashion.
The concept of self-healing Web Service has been introduced in order to describe services which exhibit such properties. A self-healing Web Service can repair itself if any execution problems occur, in order to successfully complete its own execution, while respecting functional and NF agreements. In the design of a self-healing WS, several aspects have to be considered. For instance, the service should be able to detect failures as soon as possible and to enact suitable recovery actions. Moreover, different NFR service levels might be considered in order to complete the service execution in case of error.

For this workshop, contributions devoted to Web Services, QoS management, functional and
non functional adaptability, diagnosis and autonomic services will be considered. Specifically, the relevant topics include, but are not limited to:

*	Distributed and centralized solutions for the diagnosis and repair of choreographed
        and/or orchestrated Web Services.
*	Design for the diagnosability and repairability of Web Services.
*	NFR (quality, security, robustness, adaptability) management in choreographed and/or
        orchestrated Web Services.
*	Monitoring simple and composite Web Services.
*	Ontologies for WS.
*	Dynamic reconfiguration of Web Services.
*	Predictive management for Web Services adaptability.
*	Autonomic properties management in WS-based applications.
*	Security  in self-healing services
*	Trust in scientific service-based applications
