Conference name: International Conference on Green Computing (ICGREEN)

Venue: Athens, Greece

Event Date:29 - 31, July 2010

SCOPE

Inspired by the need to take adequate actions against humankind’s rapidly destroying the conditions for prosperity and profit, the 1st International Conference on Green Computing, ICGREEN 2010 focuses on the multi-disciplinary eco-domain. The conference aims at bringing together researchers and practitioners who are interested in pushing to sustainable development through innovative Information and Communication Technology - ICT and related solutions, and whose work has impact on the acceleration of the development of truly sustainable (eco-effective) technologies. Such technologies will make use of advanced IT solutions and will facilitate activities of great societal relevance.

From ‘Silent Spring in the 60’s’ to the current United Nations Millenium Declaration, people and countries have been increasingly encouraged to achieve better management, conservation and sustainable development of all resources provided by nature. Although views may differ, most scientists would attribute a key role to technology in achieving this. ICT, in particular, can provide monitoring facilities, control systems, intelligent construction models and so on. From a scientific point of view we especially welcome input that considers the promise Service-Oriented Architectures hold as an enabler of sophisticated mechanisms that would support a transition to or monitoring of environment-friendly solutions.

ICGREEN 2010 would therefore warmly welcome those who are inspired about new ICT solutions to environmental problems or who have solutions that aim at contributing to a sustainable ICT sector. Green Computing will be an important theme in the years ahead because the increasing lack of cheap energy will inevitably trigger 'green solutions' in production and business. From a business perspective thus, becoming ‘green’ will deliver a long-lasting sustainable advantage.

The main focus of this conference therefore is on the transition ICT should make to be able to adequately contribute to a truly Green sector. With respect to this, ICGREEN’10 addresses two main questions, namely: (i) How can the ICT sector itself become Green (the INSIDE perspective)? (ii) How can ICT support other sectors in their efforts to become Green (the OUTSIDE perspective)?

The long-term aim of ICGREEN is thus to support Society and industries through scientific and technological eco-effective solutions, in following a Green pattern dominated by eco-efficiency. An eco-effective solution maximizes all three Ps (People, Planet, Profit) or three Es (Equity, Economy, Ecology) and is hence considered reproductive in principle, as long the sun shines on. Regarding this, ICGREEN will disseminate relevant research results, supporting the application and development of advanced technology in sustainable development AND supporting the greening of the sector itself, as mentioned before. Areas & Topics

Papers may address one or more of the listed topics, although authors should not feel limited by them. Unlisted but related topics are also acceptable, provided they fit in one of the following main topic areas:

(1) INSIDE Eco-Efficiency (2) INSIDE Eco-Effectiveness (3) OUTSIDE Eco-Efficiency (4) OUTSIDE Eco-Effectiveness

An example of (1) is reduction of the energy use of IT system components; an example of (2) is the transition to bio degradable monitors; an example of (3) is the intelligent balancing of the input of different (renewable) energy sources; an example of (4) is some embedded indicators supporting distributed design teams.

The topics of ICGREEN 2010 are:

› green design › energy-efficent computing › power management › green data centers › disposal and recycling › regulatory compliance › eco-labeling of IT products › environment-related risk mitigation › green metrics › virtualization › augmented reality › strategies for deployment and operation › policies for managing of virtual resources › green IT lessons (experience, case studies) › teleworking › green printing › (remote) collaboration › measuring environment-related impact › monitoring and controlling resource usage and energy consumption › green power grid › tele-conferences › simulation & gaming Paper Submission

Check the detailed instructions on how and where to submit a paper. Publications

All accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings, under an ISBN reference, on paper and on CD-ROM support. Indexation by Conference Proceedings Citation Index, INSPEC and DBLP is awaiting confirmation. Key Dates
