CALL FOR PAPERS

[Scope]

Multimedia data are used more and more widely and frequently in our daily life, e.g., multimedia search, videoconferencing, visual telephone, YouTube, IPTV, IP Cam, video surveillance, etc. Nearly most of these applications need multimedia computing and communication techniques that process multimedia data into a proper semantic level and then send it from one end to another end and keep the properties of robustness, efficiency and security. Here, the robustness denotes the ability to survive transmission errors or noises, the efficiency denotes the time cost of transmission processes, and the security denotes the protection of the transmitted media content. Recently, various intelligent computing techniques are invented, such as neural networks, fuzzy theory, evolutionary algorithm, and machine learning, which bring significant performance improvements to practical applications. For multimedia computing, these techniques can push applications to be closer to users' semantic meanings, e.g. the semantic based multimedia retrieval and specific human action detection, etc. For multimedia communication, these techniques can enhance multimedia adaptation techniques to adjust the multimedia transmission protocols to compliant with the network’s various situations. This workshop will be held in conjunction with the 7th International ICST Conference on Communications and Networking in China, Kunming on 7 August 2012. It provides a premium forum for discussions among leading experts from the academia and industry about hot topics of research and development in the emerging field of intelligent multimedia computing and communications. We solicit high quality technical papers that describe original and unpublished research on intelligent multimedia computing and communication. Submissions of high quality papers describing mature results or on-going work are invited.

[Topics]

The topics of interest include, but are not limited to - Video Surveillance - Specific Event Detection in Video - Multimedia Watermarking - Multimedia Retrieval and Indexing - Rate Control and Error Resilience Video Coding - Representation and Coding Formats for Stereo and Multiview Video - Present and Future Video Coding Standards - A Resolution Adaptive Video Compression System - Peer-to-Peer Streaming Systems - Topology Construction and Resource Allocation in P2P Live Streaming - Intelligent Video Network Engineering with Distributed Optimization - Peer-assisted Media Streaming - Free-Viewpoint TV (FTV) - UGC Video Sharing - Network Topology Inference for Multimedia Streaming - Resolution-Improvement Scheme for Wireless Video Transmission

[Paper submission]

This Workshop aims to foster state-of-the-art research in the area of intelligent multimedia computing and communications. Authors are invited to submit manuscripts reporting original unpublished research and recent developments. Manuscripts should be written in English and be formatted using the IEEE Author's Kit. All accepted papers within 6 pages will be published in IEEE Xplore, which will be applied for EI Compendex/ISTP index. Papers should be submitted through EAI 'Confy' system at Confy, and have to comply with the IEEE format (see Author's kit section). Before submitting the paper please sign up for EAI user account at eai.eu. (After signing up you will receive a confirmation email with an activation link. You need to follow the link to activate your EAI membership.

[Publication]

All accepted and presented papers will be included in the conference proceedings, made available in IEEE Xplore, as well as in the ICST's own EU Digital Library (EUDL). IEEE Proceedings are submitted for inclusion to EI Engineering Index (Compendex), Google Scholar, ISI Proceedings. See http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/Xplorehelp/Help_Publishing_and_Indexing_Partners.htm for more information about indexing.
