CALL FOR PAPERS

First International Workshop on Requirements Engineering and Law (RELAW)
Tuesday, 9 September 2008, Barcelona, Spain
http://www4.ncsu.edu/~tdbreaux/relaw

Held in conjunction with the 16th IEEE International Requirements Engineering Conference (RE'08)
http://www.re08.org

WORKSHOP OVERVIEW

What must organizations do to demonstrate that their software systems and data practices comply with government laws and regulations?

The 1st International Workshop on Requirements Engineering and Law is a multi-disciplinary, one-day workshop that will bring together practitioners and researchers from government, industry and academia to investigate the challenges to ensuring that software systems comply with the law. Recent compliance challenges include electronic voting, patient medical records, corporate governance and national identification cards. Authors are invited to submit papers that address one or more of the following topics of interest:

    * Identifying, prioritizing and integrating relevant laws and jurisdictions
    * Legal requirements acquisition, specification, analysis and validation
    * Formal and informal modeling of laws, policies and requirements
    * Traceability between laws, policies and requirements
    * Coordinating requirements change and the evolution of law
    * Introducing existing products and services into new jurisdictions
    * Requirements verification; documenting and auditing evidence of compliance
    * Acceptable degrees of compliance assurance and system certification

SUBMISSION FORMAT

Authors may submit papers in two general categories:

    * Research/Experience papers (4 pages)
    * Industrial/Government problem statements (2-4 pages)

Submissions will be reviewed by at least two members of the program committee for relevance to the workshop topics of interest. Preference will be given to submissions that emphasize informed, legally and technically sound descriptions of important challenges and problems as opposed to proposed solutions. Accepted submissions will be archived in an online proceeding in IEEE Xplore. Papers must be formatted to conform to the IEEE Computer Society proceeding guidelines and submitted electronically in Adobe PDF to the Microsoft Research Conference Management service:
