PRIB 2008 is aimed at bringing together top researchers, practitioners, and students from around the world to discuss the applications of pattern recognition methods in the field of bioinformatics to solve problems in life sciences. Pattern recognition techniques of interest include: statistical, syntactic, and structural approaches, Bayesian, hidden Markov and graphical models, neural networks, fuzzy and genetic algorithms, data mining, and their hybrids. Papers in areas of (but not limited to) bio-sequence analysis, gene and protein expression analysis, structure prediction, protein folding, docking, metabolic pathway analysis and regulatory networks, system biology, drug design, and bioimaging, are solicited for presentation at the conference.

All papers will be peer reviewed and accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings as an edited volume in Lecture Notes in Bioinformatics by Springer. Submission of papers will be electronic and through the conference website.

Proposals for special sessions and tutorials at the conference are invited in all related areas of research.

Authors of selected papers presented at the conference will also be invited for publication in Special Issues of reputed journals.
