International Workshop on RFID Data Management (RFDM '08) April 7th, 2008, Cancun, Mexico (co-located with ICDE 2008) http://rfid.cs.washington.edu/RFDM08/ WORKSHOP AIM The International Workshop on RFID Data Management (RFDM'08) aims to bring together researchers and practitioners that work on problems related to managing data produced by Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) or other traceability and automated identification (Auto ID) technologies. The workshop will serve as a forum for researchers and practitioners to discuss the state-of-the-art, present their contributions, and set future directions in the area of RFID and Auto ID data management. RFDM'08 is co-located with ICDE 2008 and is sponsored by IBM. TOPICS OF INTEREST We solicit papers that address all important aspects of data management for automated identification. Given the growing popularity of RFID, we expect primarily papers that discuss RFID deployments and challenges, but the workshop??s focus includes all aspects of automated identification, including other Auto ID technologies such as bar codes and magnetic stripes. Topics of interest include but are not limited to the following: * Cleansing data captured by Auto ID * Storing, indexing, and accessing large volumes of Auto ID data * Putting Auto ID data into context (relating it to business process information) * Event detection and inference from Auto ID data * Warehousing and mining Auto ID data * Interoperability for sharing Auto ID data across enterprises * Distributed or federated query processing in traceability applications * Central object registries (Discovery Service/Serial Look-up service) * Privacy and security in Auto ID systems * Managing access rights of sensitive RFID data in dynamic supply chains * Standards for Auto ID data * Data Management issues in Auto ID middleware * Auto ID Case Studies: Lessons learned and future implications for data management * Data Management Challenges in Auto ID usage for: o Object traceability (e.g. asset tracking) o Workflow management o Supply-chain visibility (e.g. out-of-stock management) o Manufacturing (e.g. parts assembly, recall processing, after-sales services) o End-consumer applications (e.g. NFC-technology) o Improved healthcare (e.g. anti-counterfeiting, patient safety) Submitted papers must not have been published previously and they must not be currently under consideration for publication at another venue. We are particularly interested in position papers, vision papers, system designs, and papers that address new challenges for Auto ID data management worldwide. Questions about the workshop scope should be directed to the workshop co-chairs at RFDM08@cs.washington.edu IMPORTANT DATES Abstract submission: November 27, 2007 (5pm Pacific time) Paper submission: November 30, 2007 (5pm Pacific time) Notification: January 8, 2008 Camera-ready due: January 20, 2008 Workshop: April 7, 2008
